This is my crew! Derek and I met at a small Bible College in the heart of Cincinnati, OH in 2008. I was 15, finishing my senior year of high school, and he was 19 a freshman in college. I have to laugh now of how we started hanging out because I’m this shy girl who normally doesn’t speak out in a crowd. Or the one who would rather be “behind the scenes” so to speak. But alas, I was the one pursuing the friendship and making the first move trying to get to know this guy!
To make a long story short, after a few attempts at baking a gluten free treat (because he was sensitive to gluten), we started talking and spending more and more time together! In 2010 we started dating. And then in 2012 we were got married!
Now, I’m a farm girl that was raised in PA. I’ve always enjoyed the farm life. And so after Derek and I got married, we moved to Michigan were he was from. We started out in a tiny one bedroom apartment in the middle of town! It was not our cup of tea! I guess we always knew we would eventually live in the country with a few animals. But, we had to start somewhere. We only lived there for a year.
Fast forward a few years. After renting a trailer home in the woods, to living with Derek’s parents for almost 2 years, we finally moved to our little 5 acre farm! We had Clara by this time and were in the middle of remodeling our Farmhouse. It was a crazy time, looking back. But, it was all part of the journey and makes this house have more meaning to us!
So after almost 7 years of starting this remodel project, we are in the final stages of finishing the trim and decorating this place. My husband has been working a full time job, plus making it a priority to spend lots of time with his kids and family in this whole process! Needless to say, he’s my hero, my rock and such a blessing to me!
Sawyer joined our family in 2017, and is quite the little clown. And Cole was born in 2019, who is such a sweet boy and charmer. But, he and I have had many learning experiences together. Which I plan to share in later posts.
I love this family of mine! And I’m sure you have your own story that may look very different from mine! But, wherever you are in life, there is always something to be thankful for. And so I’ve heard, you cannot be thankful and stressed at the same time. So count your blessings, and keep moving forward! Life is about the journey! It’s never about reaching a certain place and staying there. We will always be learning more and reaching more goals and growing!
Blessings,
This Farmhouse Wife
