Grandma’s Apple Crisp (Gluten Free)
I remember while growing up, almost every Sunday we would go to my Grandma’s house for Sunday dinner. She would make this warm apple crisp for dessert. One of the things that I’m glad I have of hers, is this recipe. I want to share it with you. It’s quick and simple and so delicious! We love it with a scoop of ice cream or in a bowl of milk!
First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, slice (and peel if you prefer) the apples. I like to use Cortland apples, but whatever you have on hand is good.
Then, add your sugar to the apples.
Add the cinnamon!
Add your flour. You can use an all purpose flour, but I use long grain rice flour in this recipe. There are different types of rice flours that I will explain in a later post.
Put the apples in a greased 9×9 baking dish. And set aside.
In the same bowl (I’m all about using less dishes to avoid having to wash more dishes). Add your flour for the crumble topping. Again I’m using long grain rice flour here. But, you can use Almond flour, a blend of rice and ground flaxseed, or coconut flour of you’d like.
Add your gluten free oats. I prefer to use quick oats. But you can use rolled or steel cut.
Next, add brown sugar! Yum!
Melt your butter!
Mix with a fork. Until it forms crumbles.
Spread crumble topping on top of the apples. And put into the oven to bake for at least 45 mins.
Now your house will smell like Grandma’s house just like it used to when you would go over to visit. And your husband will be in such a good mood when he gets home, because he can’t help but feel happy when he smells this! Oh wait, that’s just my husband? Ok!
