We’ve been thoroughly enjoying our summer here on our little farm! So much, in fact, I have put blogging on the back burner so to speak. I just can’t believe how fast this summer has flown by! I know, I probably say that every year, but this one seemed to rush by and I’m just now catching up!
For those who follow me on Instagram, you probably have a good idea of what our summer was like. I find it easier and faster to just quick post over there, but I also wanted to share a little bit on here snippets of our summer!
First, I’ll start by explaining the picture above. So my kids are gobbling down those red raspberries as fast as they can. You’d think they had never seen a red raspberry in their life! When Derek and I bought this farm in 2014, soon after, we planted berry bushes. After a while, we figured the bushes were too far gone, so we kind of forgot about them and let that area let nature takes its course. Now, this summer, to our surprise we have these huge bushes of berries in our backyard. It’s kind of fun to go scavenging around the backyard looking for delicious treats. The kids love it! I do too. It reminds me of when I was little roaming around on my Dad’s farm. We found a blackberry bush and would eat those things like they were going out of style!
I just love making memories like this!
Cole and I were happy to be the onlookers and stay out of the thorns!
I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to give up summer each time the season changes. But, at least I have these memories to hold onto and wait in anticipation for next summer!
Snapshots Around the Farm
One of our Golden Retrievers, Ruby, had a little of six puppies on August 26, 2021. She had 3 males and 3 females. Such a perfect litter size. Ruby is such a good mama to these sweet babes.
What’s a farm without its loyal dog… or “dogs”. Meet the crew!
Flowers on the Farm
One of my favorite things about summer, is the beauty of flowers! I have loved to grow flowers for a few years now, especially sunflowers! This year, we planted Zinnias for Clara in her little “garden spot”. It’s so fun watching something so small and simple, grow into something so complex and beautiful.
Of course we can’t forget the occasional chicken chase from the little farmer!
I also tried my hand at canning our garden tomatoes. First, we made Mango Salsa.
Then, I made my first batch of Tomato Jam. Recipe here!
As summer comes to a close and we open the door to a new season, let’s find joy and beauty in what the next season can bring. I want to be intentional about finding the beauty in every season. Because, God created each season for a purpose. Let’s keep moving forward into Fall with wonder and curiosity!
With Love,
This Farmhouse Wife
