Making homemade playdough is a simple way to create a fun activity with your kids. My kids LOVE playdough! They will spend most of the day at the kitchen table making shapes, cut-outs or just rolling it in their hands.
Our kids love spending time with us! They crave that attention. They need that focused attention from us. It’s so easy to just give them the store bought stuff that cost you a couple dollars, and then get on with your “to do list” that keeps getting put off somehow (funny how that happens). But, you will reap the benefits of taking that time to spend with your kids.
This is an easy recipe to make without having to cook it on the stove. So grab a chair for your kiddos to stand next to you at the counter and enjoy the mess! Literally!!
Start by adding your flour in a medium bowl.
Add the salt.
Add the cream of tartar and whisk.
Add the lukewarm water.
Then, the vegetable oil. This will add a nice smooth texture to the playdough as well as helping it to bind together and not be sticky.
Mix thoroughly. The mixture will be very wet at this point. Gradually add in more flour till the mixture pulls away from the sides of the bowl. **Be careful not to add too much flour because it will make your dough too hard and will crumble easily.**
Once the dough is forming a ball, separate dough into quart size baggies (or separate bowls) and add food coloring to make the desired color of dough. Usually the label on the box of food coloring has a color guide to help with the color choice. Also, the dough to the baggie keeps the food dye from staining your hands.
Playdough should be soft and moldable. Enjoy!
It’s even great for making tracks with heavy machinery!
Or Bigfoot!😂
